In this episode we unpack the topic of creating healthy boundaries. We discuss what boundaries are and the important role they play inside of friendships. Healthy friendships have healthy boundaries. We should acknowledge how the behaviors of our friends make us feel and be willing to keep those lines of communication honest and open. This is the foundation for giving each other permission to speak into blind spots.

We take a look at three scriptures and the truth it reveals about friendships.
- Proverbs 17:17
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
- Luke 6:31

#14: Fueling Your Potential: A Chat with Monique Walker

This episode is all about "Fueling Your Potential". I had the honor of interviewing my cousin, Monique Walker. She is a middle school English-Language Arts teacher in Orange, NJ who is passionate about her students seeing their potential. This passion stems from her own experience of someone speaking negatively into her potential as a young girl.

Monique discusses how one of her high school teachers told her that her dream of being a lawyer was good, but that she should probably aim for something less. She started acting out and was then labeled as a rebel child. She ended up not walking at her high school graduation. She decided to go into education to help fuel kids' potential. Now, after 17 years in education, Monique is making a HUGE impact in the lives of kids.

Be encouraged today, regardless of where you are in your journey, fuel your potential. You are "you". You are not the hats you wear. Taking care of yourself and investing in yourself is healthy when it comes to fueling your potential.

Also, your community fuels your potential. Surround yourself with people who are going to encourage you. Let this include people who are a season ahead of you. Having older people around you gives you a different perspective and gives you access to wisdom that you need.

Monique discusses the importance of prayer and leaning into God's plans for your life. We unpack the fact that when we don't follow God's plans for our lives, we miss out and the people we are called to reach miss out. Monique ends the podcast talking about growth. She says, "With struggle comes growth." #sogood

Today's episode is all about potential. I looked it up on google, and potential means having the capacity to become something in the future. We all have it. We all have the capacity to become something great. The thing is, if we want to become something great in the future, we need to take care of our TODAY. A lot of times we have dreams of becoming ____________ in the future. You fill in the blank. But in order to see those things we can become, a reality in our lives, we need to speak into and live into our potential today. In this episode, we are going to unpack potential. We will unpack five things that affect your potential. Ya'll know I had to come up with an acronym to help me remember what affects our potential. As we live into our potential we expand our reach. Potential in us is NOT only for us. Our potential, when realized, stretches our reach. So the question for today is: how's your reach? R.E.A.C.H. ---> Reactions, environment, attitude, community, habits.

#12: Navigating Through Expectations: A Chat With My Girls

This episode is all about Expectations - how to navigate though the web of other people's expectation of you, the expectations you put on yourself, and the expectations you put on others.

As I thought about who should join me for this particular episode, I couldn't think of 2 better people than THE Nicole Wright and Tara Richards. These girls are the real deal. They are absolutely hands down two of my best friends and I knew they wouldn't sugar coat anything.

We talk about how the expectations of your friends can shape your decisions and bleed over into fulfilling God's call on your life. We address how expectations are processed and how they influence our interactions with others.

We touch on how our own personalities affect the expectations of others. We sometimes can put expectations on people in the context of our own personalities. Learning about ourselves helps us appreciate the differences in others and relate to them.

We speak encouragement to people who are stuck on this hamster wheel of fulfilling the expectations of others, needing validation, so much so... that they don't even consider their own feelings, ideas, goals, whatever. The real them is buried under everyone else's idea of who they should be.

We end with some practical next steps people can take:
** Recognize - who you want to be - the person, friend, mom , co-worker
** Reflection - Who are you today? Honest look at yourself
** Respond - What action are you doing to take? What is the 1% change you can make? What's the one step you can take today toward being the person you want to be?

This conversation is so important. In order to live, love, and lead well, we have to be willing to get out of the box of other people's expectations.

#10: Never Give Up: A Chat With Cherish Gilmore

We all have goals and dreams, but sometimes they don't happen on our timetable. We can experience failure on our way to victory. We feel defeat before we arrive at the destination. In this episode, Cherish and I talk about not giving up even when it doesn't look like you'll ever reach the finish line.

Cherish discusses family life and the different hats she wears. Although she manages those hats, she still has personal dreams and aspirations. One of her main goals is to practice law.
#9: Help! I'm Overwhelmed

Life can sometimes really throw you a curve ball. There may be moments or even seasons where you feel overwhelmed. In this episode, I share 4 practical things you can do when you feel overwhelmed as well as some great scriptures to meditate on. In this episode, I reference a ministry by my friend and recent podcast guest, Leah Burgess. You can connect with her on IG @saltlifeandlove.

April talks about:
1) Journaling - Even if you are not naturally a writer, journaling helps you process you thoughts.
2) Spending time with friends - In moments of pressure, it is easy to isolate ourselves. But, having community is very healthy.
3) Writing Scriptures - Allows you to really consider the words and mediate on them.
4) Sing - Taking time to sing out worship to God, gets our focus off of our problems and puts it on God.

April unpacks Psalm 61:1-2 and Isaiah 40:28-31

#8: Keep Your Fire Lit: A Chat with Leah Burgess

In this episode, Leah and April chat about how blazing our trail can be so difficult that the only way to move forward is to burn some things with different degrees of flames. But the main thing is not letting the fire go out. That takes work! You can connect with Leah on IG @saltlifeandlove and visit her ministry website at http://www.saltlifeandlove.com

Leah has a passion for people. She and her husband meet people where they are and organize several community drives throughout the year. They are community service leaders at their church and lead several efforts to minister to people who have experienced hurt and trauma.

Their biggest struggle is staying free themselves. They recognize their own struggles and have been intentional about their prayers. They have seen God move on their behalf in a huge way.

Leah describes blazing your trail as abiding in God. She discusses how abiding in God changes your desires, changes your prayers, and gives you strategies to burn the debris that is in your way.

Leah unpacks the idea that sometimes we need to blaze ourselves. She encourages us to be quiet and still in God's presence. She encourages us to read God's Word, journal, and write down out prayers.

#7: Refresh Your Faith

In this episode, give your faith a little boost with God's word. April answers four questions:

1) What is faith?
2) How do I grow my faith?
3) How do I use my faith?
4) How do I share my faith?

Faith requires a decision to put our natural senses and circumstances to the side. It's what we use to walk in the promises of God. Faith is how we live.

We all have been given a measure of faith. It's our responsibility to grow it. We grow our faith by engaging in God's Word.

We use our faith most effectively when we love. We use our faith by speaking God's Word and taking action steps when God leads us.

Using our faith builds our courage to share our faith. We share our faith because God is good. When others hear about God's goodness, it leads them to repentance. Sharing your faith simply means sharing your story.

#6: Bonus Episode: A Chat With Elaine Fleming

April Scipio and Elaine Fleming chat about not being OK and the importance of community in your journey of emotional health.

Elaine shares how she discovered she was a daughter of a King. She realizes that being in healthy community showed her that she is loved. Her journey has allowed her to cross paths with people who are hurting physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She is a firm believer that it is OK, not to be OK.

Elaine shares about how her daughter battled depression and how she had to navigate through that as a mom. It was real spiritual warfare. While she received clinical help, restoring her spiritually became a priority. Now on the other side of this struggle, Elaine and her daughter are both so much stronger in their relationships with the Lord.

Elaine believes that it's important to be in community during dark times in your life. She encourages us to confide in someone we trust to love on us and take care of us when we need someone to lean on and hold you up.

Being a Christian doesn't exempt you from being hurt. It is important for us to be there for each other. This is why small groups are so important. If you are hurting and you do not have community, please reach out!

#5: Heart Check- A Chat With Aisha Cox

On this episode, April chats with Aisha Cox about keeping pure motives while going after your God-given dreams. From California to Colorado, Aisha has experienced God’s best because her heart stays toward Him. Be inspired and challenged to seek God’s will and embrace His plan for your life.

Aisha is a teaching pastor at her church and God continues to stretch her faith. She talks about how she is learning that she is not in control. God is in control.

When she moved to Colorado, she learned that what felt like subtraction, was really an addition to her life. She talks about her growth and how it has been on a level that she knows wouldn't have happened if she hadn't moved.

Aisha talks about when people speak negatively about your passions, you have to make a decision to just follow what God put on your heart. She unpacks how God is the one who qualifies you and our motive should be to impact God's kingdom.

Aisha encourages us to pray that God creates a clean heart in us and to lay down our dreams at His feet. When you have God backing you, it transforms your confidence.

You can connect with Aisha on Instagram @_aishacox and be sure to also head over to her YouTube channel (Aisha Cox) for some encouragement.

#3: Healthy Weight Loss: A Chat With Jenn Dana

As we Blaze our Trail, living a healthy lifestyle is important. In this chat with Jenn Dana, she shares her passion for healthy living and how she blazed her trail as a weight loss coach. Be inspired to go after your goals and kick shame to the curb!

Jenn started a coaching business called "Counting with Jenn" to help people lose weight . She is passionate about this business because she struggled with her weight after her son was born. She has worked hard to lose weight and keep it off in a healthy way with a one on one coaching style.

Jenn uncovers her struggles and how she pushes past them to follow her dream. We are reminded that we do not have to have all the boxes checked before we go after a dream. Jenn's biggest win is that she gets to celebrate with her clients when they achieve goals.

Jenn shares that to be successful at weight loss, you have to change your mindset. Weight loss is 80% mental and 20% physical. Jenn believes in the power of community when working toward a goal.

Jenn encourages us that if you are afraid to start a journey of weight lost, you must first own where you are at. You can't move forward until you acknowledge where you are at. Then, you have to change your mindset and make intentional choices each day.

Jenn ends this episode making a connection between her weight loss journey and her faith. She is firm believer in progress over perfection.

People can be your greatest challenge, but on the flip side, people can be your greatest asset. The way you treat people matters! April unpacks how our character is reflected in the way we treat people. God loves the world and we are called to love like Him.

If you have been treated poorly, this does not determine your value. God values you greatly. You were chosen by God and have the ability to treat others well, regardless of how they treat you. It requires you to intentionally forgive others.

If you are someone who needs to adjust how you treat others, your first step is to receive forgiveness by faith. Your next step is to make the quality decision to move forward. Help is available for you. We are all human and it requires help from the Holy Spirit to treat people like they should be treated.

One of the most important things you can to do is surround yourself with community that will help you and encourage you in this area.
